Photographer and author Thomas Kalak comes from the late 70´s/80´s skating scene in Germany. In 1985, he started working as a photographer for the international skating scene.  From 1990 on, he became engaged with urban objects encountered on the streets of international metropolises, objects and arrangements outside of the visual perception of most tourists. Affinities to the “readymades” appeared here. The objects of Bangkok are a deeply philosophical interior view solely dedicated to the Thais’ exceptionally gifted art of improvisation. Kalak tried to fathom the functioning of these often enigmatic objects. A stock of more than 50.000 photos of cities like bangkok arose. Kalak has received several awards and award nominations from photography and design competitions such as IF Design Award, International Photography Awards, Iinternational Aperture Awards, German Photobook Award and Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany. His pictures have been published in award winning publications and shown in various exhibitions. His solo exhibition “Bangkok Cable Ways” has been shown in the Art Museum Pablo Picasso in Germany. thomaskalak.com
