I think this picture says everything about how I feel about my home and my garden. We moved to the country because I wanted more space and a bigger garden (I’d filled our London garden to overflowing!). The house came with almost an acre – lots of mossy lawn, random shrubs and beds full of weeds. But, even then, there was something magical about it. I started from scratch – getting rid of everything except two old roses and this extraordinary Wisteria. It’s been hard work and I don’t know if it will ever be finished. But when I walk around at night and see the house lit up and sitting in the middle of the garden I’ve created - the box-edged beds and yew topiary; the tulips and Lily of the Valley – I feel enormously happy. And lucky! More luck: I’m off to the Chelsea Flower Show next week for a private tour of Savill’s show garden. Hooray! It’s been years since I’ve visited and I cannot wait!
